I never thought the sunset would be that colourful. The day was mostly overcast with very little to no light. Due to walking through metre high snow my socks were dripping wet. And there was this ghastly wind which made waiting very unpleasant. I had to wait for over an hour in the cold till the sun finally set. When the sun went to sleep and the colours showed up I forgot my ice cold feet and my stiff fingers immediately. I guess that's what photography is all about, isn't it?
View of the mountain Gantrisch (2'175 m/7'136 ft). You can walk up to its peak in summer. Not sure if that's possible in winter.
During the winter the trails around the Oeschinensee (1'578 m/5'177 ft) are buried under metres of snow. Leaving the safety of the groomed paths would have been too dangerous because the threat of avalanches was ever present. On that day I saw two avalanches. Small ones though, but still impressive and scary.
